Well, it's week 3 of the One Room Challenge and this week I'm showcase the Concept Board I created for the look.
The main difference between a Mood Board and a Concept Board is that Mood Boards are for inspiration and Concept Boards feature actual shoppable items. Often times, the two words are used interchangeably but a lot more time and effort goes into a Concept Board.
First, I source items and add them to a personalized Pinterest Board specific to the room I'm working on. Within this board will be as many categories as I need to source for, in this case:
Dining Chairs
Rug
Bar Cart
Bar Cart Decor
Floor Lamp
Centre Piece
Wall Stencil
When I work with clients, I always have a personalized Pinterest board going on in the back end. Depending on how involved the client wants to be in the process determines whether or not I invite them to it. If I don't, instead I just use it find items that I like for their project and then refine the options into a concept board and present that along with a shopping list.
You'll see that in some categories, it looks like an item has been pinned twice, and it has. The truth is, many vendors offer the same items at different prices. If I come across the same item between vendors, I pin them both. The final decision on which one to order is determined by a couple factors:
Pricing
Sales or discounts
Their logistics system
Delivery charges
Inventory
Ease of ordering
The other two categories that will always be found in the board are:
APPROVED: Items I add to the concept board will be added to this category
Inspo's: These are photos that the client and I have exchanged while discussing the style or project inspiration.
Once the concept board is complete, the shopping list will also be complete because I do them simultaneously. Both are presented at the same time so the client can see which parts of their budget are going to what and the total cost of the look at regular price because delivery and taxes as those vary order to order.
The shopping list includes as the information for the item that I could gather including:
An image
Dimensions
quantity
Individual price & total for # of them we need
Colour
Vendor
Cleaning codes or installation information
URL
Once the client has received this, it's time for them to approve or request a revision. If the look is approved we smoothly move into the purchasing stage. If not, I get their feedback, look back on the Pinterest board, revise the Concept Board & Shopping List then resend!
So, without further ado, here's the Concept Board for this Glam Dining Room:
Sometimes, after the concept board and shopping list have been approved by the client things can change. Sometimes, something goes out of stock or some other unexpected circumstance pops up. BUT, I'll let you know if I run into any hiccups or changes next week along with some photos of the freshly painted Buffet!
OH, AND, by then I should have finalized which stencil and paint colours I'm going to use for a feature behind the buffet!
That's all for now!
